*Taito amazingly got permission from the government to sell slot machines that gave medals by proposing the machine not as a gambling machine but as a "sex industry sales machine". These medals could later be sold directly for money. This was the''Royal Crown'' (the first Olympia Machine?), which was basically just a copy of the ''[[Sega Bell]]'' with the ability to stop individual reels for the "skill" element needed to skirt the law. Sega saw this (or was even aware pre-launch), and quickly began development of the ''[[Olympia Star]]'' with the same setup, before even applying for government permission. Taito caught wind of this, got angry, and got in touch with Sega to protest. For some reason, probably related to Taito's machine being a copy of Sega's machine in almost every way, the two ended up working together and formed the joint-venture [[Olympia (company)|Olympia]]. Sega would play the part of providing the shells and selling the product (hence the ultimate Sega product, the ''Olympia Star''), with Taito having done the legwork with opening the way for the new industry and establishing the initial concept.
