- Back to: Phantasy Star Portable 2.
Regional Comparison
The following section covers differences present between the Japanese and Western release of Phantasy Star Portable 2.
The light-blue SEGA logo used in Japan is replaced with the dark-blue SEGA logo used in the West.
The Western version's startup adds an extra warning not present in the Japanese version, warning players not to change their storage media while playing the game.
The logo used in the Western version of the game is altered to not have Katakana text present.
The game's title menu omits the options to access the game's website in the Western version.
In the import menu, the option to import items bought off of the PSP's PSN storefront has been removed as these weren't available in the West.
The names of the Multiplayer Modes has been changed in the Western version.
Additional Differences
- The Western version has a partial English dub; while majority of the voice lines (particularly in regards to ingame grunts and FMV cutscenes) have been dubbed, many of the game's voiced dialogue had been simply removed altogether.
- Item Codes had been re-generated in the Western version.
- The Japanese version of Phantasy Star Portable 2 had various collaborations with real-life brands and certain anime. While SEGA of America was able to license many of the collaborations present in the game, certain items were unable to be licensed for the Western version. The fate of these items were as follows:
- Gravure Japan Bikini Models: Replaced with a Western exclusive poster.
- Famitsu/Dengeki Weapons: Rebranded.
- Pizza Hut Weapons and Outfit: Rebranded to Pizza Shack.
- Pizza Hut Room Item: Removed from the Western version.
- Fanta Room Item: Rebranded to Juice.
- Mobage Town Weapons: Rebranded to Real Handgun G.
- Moyashimon World Aura: Removed from the Western version.
- Despite the option being present ingame, the Western version would never receive any of the Japanese DLC missions localized. As a result, the distribution of certain items had been altered to make them still obtainable without these missions.
