PicoDrive is a Sega Mega Drive/Pico emulator programmed by notaz. It works on windows systems and has the functions that would be expected of a Pico emulator. The pen board is on a separate window but by selecting a certain option the game screen itself can be used as the pen board. Players can turn pages also.
History
PicoDrive was started off by fDave (author of DGen) as a Mega Drive emulator for the Windows Mobile platform. It was designed for devices with ARM processor and features Cyclone 68k emulation core, which is written in ARM assembly. Later the project was taken over by notaz and ported to UIQ smartphones, GP2X, Gizmondo, Sony PlayStation Portable (ARM code replaced with C), PC. Other people have made ports for more Symbian devices, Nintendo DS (as PicoDriveDS), iPhone (as genesis4iphone), RISC OS and more. PicoDrive is notable for being the first emulator to fully emulate Virtua Racing.
After the February 23, 2008 Proto Release, several Pico prototypes were found, and with these work on a Pico emulator could finally begin. Up until this point there were no Pico game dumps on the web and if there were any dumps they were in the hands of an elite few. Thus on May 21, 2008, the PicoDrive with Pico Emulation was released and the Pico prototypes could be played on the PC.
