History of Sega in Austria

From Sega Retro

With the success of the Sega Mega Drive, Sega Europe embarked on a rapid expansion, taking over direct distribution of Sega products in a number of European markets, one of which was Austria. However by 1996 there had been a large decline in the 16-bit market, and Sega Saturn was struggling against Sony's Playstation. Sega Europe had not turned a profit since 1993 and so the decision was made to close down their operations in smaller markets, and make drastic reductions in the workforce of major markets. Thus in 1996 Sega withdrew from Austria, along with Belgium, Denmark, and The Netherlands.
