Black Squirrel/Mega Drive bundles
From Sega Retro
So I guess the plan is to replace this page with something more... elegant. Problem is, I'm not sure how best to handle the scans
doing something like this:
Box | Name | Date | Price | Console | Cables | Controllers | Games | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Mega Drive | >= 1991 | £ | ? |
x2 |
Sonic the Hedgehog |
is a bit messy, and I don't know where I'd put manuals/warranty cards/whatever without this getting even more cluttered. Ideally I want to reduce the amount of scrolling, but I don't want to upset the scan tracker.
This solution will need to apply to all systems, including the Saturn which has its own thing going on (which I'm not keen on either - we'll have a lot of stretched templates when manuals start being collected).
Advice/solutions? -Black Squirrel (talk) 04:02, 4 June 2014 (CDT)
- Oh and also - to save costs, Sega often used a "standard" console box and wrappd it in a cardboard sleeve for special editions. I've been ignoring this fact up until now, but I imagine it'll come back to haunt us in the future for whatever reason. Presumably we'll want a way to manage that too (and again I think it'll clutter up the scanbox template if I start adding 3909342 fields for all the different box sides plus the sleeve sides - it wasn't really built with this stuff in mind). -Black Squirrel (talk) 12:25, 4 June 2014 (CDT)

- Looks good to me, I like the option to account for price drops, could the same be done for software? I need to find some magazine news articles which listed tons of UK hardware bundles.--Pirate Dragon (talk) 14:05, 9 June 2014 (CDT)
- Software would be awkward because it means adjusting the releases template... although it probably needs adjusting anyway to take into account all the European currencies (and of course the switch to the Euro). I haven't looked much into this - were Sega setting reduced RRPs or was it just for the retailers to decide? -Black Squirrel (talk) 14:15, 9 June 2014 (CDT)
- Sega reduced the RRP for a lot of Master System and Mega Drive games, creating £9.99 SMS and £19.99 MD budget ranges.--Pirate Dragon (talk) 14:28, 9 June 2014 (CDT)
- After going through my magazine collection twice, along with numerous scans I was perplexed as to why I couldn't find an article I recalled. Yesterday it hit me, it was actually in Sonic the Comic. UK Xmas 1993 bundles; imgur.com/15f1Cu3 --Pirate Dragon (talk) 03:18, 12 July 2014 (CDT)
- I'm wondering if those prices are right - the Sonic Master System bundle seems to have gone up from £49 (1993) to £49.99 (1994). Also I take it the SMS bundles are consoles with Sonic built-in as opposed to being bundled with a physical cart -Black Squirrel (talk) 04:39, 12 July 2014 (CDT)
