Pause the game and press . There will be a sound if this code is entered correctly. As well as being invincible, weapons can be selected by pressing HOLD , and when paused, pressing HOLD  START  will skip the level, pressing HOLD  START  will lose a life and pressing HOLD  START  will speed up the game.

On the options screen, press ++ to activate/deactivate "Toaplan mode". This makes the game harder.
