Mega Drive version
The Western versions include a ™ symbol next to the Sega logo.
The US version has an extra Sega Sports logo in the introduction.
Western versions have an extra copyright screen.
All menus were translated. The Japanese game is always in Japanese, while the Western versions are always in English.
The Japanese version uses dithering in order to simulate the 3D courses, while in the West, all polygons are flat shaded. Arguably this means the Japanese version is able to convey more information to the player as more slopes are visible, however the dithering effect can make it difficult to spot far-off details. Both methods take around the same time to render so there is no significant performance increase by using flat shading.
The power meter increases linearly in the Japanese version, and once it passes 100% power, it returns straight to . In the West, the meter accelerates and "bounces" at the top, decelerating back to 0%.
The western versions have an overhead shot of the hole when the ball is near.
While the player characters remain the same between all versions, the caddy portraits are different. One caddy has darker coloured skin in the Western versions, while in Japan, all the women have brown hair.
