Switchblade is an aftermarket game released in 2019 for the Sega Mega Drive, and was ported from the original Amiga version. A new Atari Jaguar version were also made. These releases featured a new cover artwork by Simon Phipps, original creator of Switchblade.
On May 28 2019, Piko Interactive launched crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to fund a release of action figure based on Switchblade characters, and Switchblade video games for Megadrive and Atari Jaguar with a funding goal of $8,500. It was successfully funded with $9,525 on 170 backers. Unfortunately, the release of action figure was cancelled because of production problems[2].
Plot
On the cyber world of Thraxx, Havok has returned. After 10.000 years of peace, the Fireblade, source of power for the ancient Blade-knights, has shattered.
The night burned red, and the people of the Undercity fell beneath the onslaught of Havok's nightmare creations. Helpless, the Blade-knights died alongside their people. Only one of their order survived.
You play Hiro, the last of the Blade-knights, a hi-tech warrior armed with stealth, cunning and a powerful re-programmable cyber-arm. You must enter the Undercity and reassemble the sixteen fragments of the shattered Fireblade. Only then will you be able to take on Havok and average the death of your people.
Gameplay
The gameplay is platform and ladders based, set both inside and outside. The layout of the territories becomes visible as you progress, and they can contain bonus weapons and secret rooms. Unlike the sequel you start without weaponry, and this is gained directly, rather than you collecting coins and trading them at shop sections. Holding down fire progressively builds up your fighting power[1].
