Pocket Monster/Bugs

From Sega Retro

Pikachu's movement speed

As a possible oversight, Pikachu's movement speed when walking left is faster than his speed when walking right. This also occurs in Pocket Monster II.

Not fixed in any version.

Pikachu's jump height

Pikachu can only control his jump height by holding C for different periods of time when the D-Pad isn't pressed. If any directions are pressed while lightly tapping C, he will always jump at his maximum height, and will immediately stop gaining height if the D-Pad is let go. This makes it difficult to dodge certain enemies in some situations.

As a byproduct of this bug, it is possible for Pikachu to drop through platforms that are moving upwards by performing a short hop with a light tap of C. Both this and the above also occur in Pocket Monster II.

Not fixed in any version.

Double jumping from an enemy

After stomping an enemy or when taking damage, it is possible for the player to perform a mid-air jump by pressing C before Pikachu reaches the apex of his bounce. This also occurs in Pocket Monster II.

Not fixed in any version.
