Ozone Kid is a Sega Mega Drive action platform game developed by Magicom and published by Sega exclusively through the Sega Channel.

History

Originally known under the working title of Environmental Detective, the game was intended to be released on cartridge, and made an appearance at Summer CES 1992.[1] Despite visible progression on the game's development, however, it appears Magicom struggled find a publisher[2], and was forced to shelve the project for a brief time. The company later turned to Sega for a release on the Sega Channel, as being a broadcast exclusive would negative the prohibitive publishing costs of a physical release. Fortunately for Magicom, this would actually come pass, with the newly-renamed Ozone Kid having the honor of being the first Sega Channel exclusive ever released[3], launching before even the well-known Mega Man: The Wily Wars later that October.

Legacy

An May 2019 post (from an anonymous European user) on the website Unseen64 claims to own of a prototype of the game on floppy disk, reportedly given to him by the original developer sometime in the late 1990s. The same user also speculates that Magicom later morphed into Norwegian developer Funcom.[4]

As of 2023, Ozone Kid is currently undumped.
