Model 2 version

Simplify HUD

On the car select screen, select a car and press HOLD  View  START . This will start the game with a simplified heads up display, with the distance meter, best times, rear view mirror and on-screen directions being removed. It will also move the timer to the bottom right hand side of the screen.

Practice Lake Side

Select practise mode, hold  Break  and turn the wheel so that Mountain is highlighted. Then move the gears to 1, 2, 3, neutral, 3; a whoosh sound will confirm a correct entry. Wait for the timer to run out and the Lake Side track will load.

Saturn version

Clean pause

While paused, press ++ to remove the pause menu. The menu can be reinstated by pressing any button afterwards.

Unlock Lake Side

On the main menu, press +. In arcade practice mode, pressing when highlighting Mountain will reveal Lake Side, while it will be listed normally elsewhere.

Unlock the Stratos

On the main menu, press . Now, when selecting a car in arcade mode, press when highlighting the manual Celica to see the automatic Stratos, or press when highlighting the manual Delta to see the manual Stratos. In other modes, it will just be listed normally.

Race against the Stratos in arcade practice mode

Having unlocked the Stratos, go to arcade, then practice, and when prompted to select a course, press HOLD . Keep the buttons held until the race starts, and the opponent car should be a Statos.

Mirror mode

On the select game screen, hold +. When the game begins, the tracks will be flipped.

"Special" mode

In arcade mode, select your car with HOLD . This will alter the car's handling to make it harder to spin out when cornering. Any arcade mode records set using this mode will be logged under a separate "Special" category.

Change replay camera angles

During a replay, toggles between the default "cinematic" camera and the "normal" camera, the latter emulating the view seen during normal play.

With the "cinematic" camera enabled, press HOLD + to zoom out and HOLD + to zoom in.

With the normal camera enabled, pressing , , , , , or will switch between viewpoints. and emulate the first/third person view seen in the main game just by pressing . Most of these do not exist in the NTSC-U version of the game; instead, , and just toggle between the first and third-person viewpoints.

Remove HUD

Prior to the car selection screen, hold ++, then select your car with . When the race starts, all HUD elements will be removed.

This code does not work in the NTSC-U version of the game.

More challenging ghost car

On the time attack menu, select "3 laps" with HOLD +. When the race begins, a more challenging ghost car will appear.

This code does not work in the NTSC-U version of the game.

Falling scenery

Drive backwards on the Forest course until you get to the area between the checkpoint and the hairpin turn. A muddy hill will shake for a couple of seconds, then fall off-screen (taking a spectator with it). It is not known why this feature exists; it appears to have been explicitly programmed, rather than a bug.

This geometry does not exist in the NTSC-U version of the game. It is one of several pieces of scenery added in later versions.

Windows PC version

Note that the cheat keys for this game are hardcoded to keyboard X, Y and Z. This can clash with the default keyboard control scheme so it is recommended to remap the controls to different keys before using these. For clarity the cheats are grouped by which screen they are entered on.

Main menu

These cheats are performed on the main menu

Unlock Lake Side

On the main menu, press X+Y. In arcade practice mode, pressing 🡪 when highlighting Mountain will reveal Lake Side, while it will be listed normally elsewhere.

On the main menu, press X Y Z Y X. Now, when selecting a car in arcade mode, press 🡨 or 🡫 when highlighting the manual Celica to see the automatic Stratos, or press 🡪 or 🡫 when highlighting the manual Delta to see the manual Stratos. In other modes, it will just be listed normally.

This code does not function on the direct 3d version of the game

Arcade/practice mode

These cheats are performed in either arcade or practice mode.

Special mode (alternative car handling model)

On the car select screen, hold X and press  Enter . This will alter your car's handling to make it harder to spin out when cornering. Any arcade mode records set using this cheat are logged in the separate 'Special' category on the records screen instead of the 'Standard' category.

Practice against Lancia Stratos

Having already unlocked the Stratos, hold Z and press  Enter  on the practice mode course select screen to have the AI opponent drive the Lancia Stratos.

Time attack/2 player mode

These cheats are performed in either time attack mode or 2 player mode

Mirror mode

On the course select screen, hold Y and press  Enter  to activate mirror mode.

More challenging ghost car

On the time attack menu, hold X+Z and press  Enter  to select ‘3 Laps’ mode to enable a ghost car which drives the developer’s best time.

Remove dashboard display/hud

On the time attack or 2 player course select, hold X and press  Enter  to hide the dashboard/HUD from view. This does not appear to be possible on arcade/practice mode as X+Enter enables Special Mode there.
