Astro Fighter is a scrolling shooter arcade game released by Data East in 1979. Though Data East distributed the game in Japan, overseas operations were handled by Gremlin/Sega (though the cabinets themselves only credit Gremlin).
It was notably the first shoot 'em up with vertical scrolling and boss battles, as well as one of the first games Sega marketed with the Multi-Phase concept.[3] Sega were not involved in the release of the 1981 sequel, Super Astro Fighter.
