Play as Akuma/Gouki

Hold L+R then highlight the player's "random" character and press:

Player 1: Left Left Left Down Down Down X+Y

Player 2: Right Right Right Down Down Down X+Y

Substitute X+Y for A+B for the alternative palette.

Alternatively, Akuma can be unlocked permanently by beating Arcade mode on difficulty level 5 or higher, without losing a single round, and getting 10 super-combo finishes and 3 perfects. If you achieve this, Akuma will replace the final boss character and defeating him will unlock him on your save file. To select him, highlight the player's "random" character and press Down to cycle through the available permanently unlocked characters.

Play as M.Bison/Vega

Hold L+R then highlight the player's "random" character and press:

Player 1: Left Left Down Down Left Down Down X+Y

Player 2: Right Right Down Down Right Down Down X+Y

Substitute X+Y for A+B for the alternative palette.

Alternatively, M.Bison can be unlocked permanently by beating Arcade mode on difficulty level 8, with any character who faces M.Bison as their final boss opponent. Defeating him will unlock him on your save file. To select him, highlight the player's "random" character and press Down to cycle through the available permanently unlocked characters.

Play as Dan

Hold L+R then highlight the player's "random" character and press:

Player 1: Y X A B Y

Player 2: Y B A X Y

Unlike the previous two characters, these codes dictate which colour scheme to use, so if player two wants to use Dan's traditional pink gi, use the player 1 code (unless player 1 already has).

Alternatively, Dan can be unlocked permanently by playing Arcade mode on difficulty level 6, and fighting your way to the 5th, 6th or 7th opponent. Once your opponent is defeated, hold L+R+Up and keep them held until the next fight is about to begin. This will cause Dan to challenge you and defeating him will unlock him on your save file.

Dan can also be unlocked permanently by playing Arcade mode on difficulty level 6 or higher, and winning the first 5 battles with the same winning taunt message appearing after each victory. The taunt messages are normally randomly selected but can be controlled by using a code (see below). If you achieve this, Dan will challenge you before the 6th battle, and defeating him will unlock him on your save file.

Dan can also be unlocked permanently by playing Arcade mode on the hardest difficulty, and winning each battle without losing a round. When you face Adon, there is a random chance that Dan will challenge you and defeating him will unlock him on your save file. To select him, highlight the player's "random" character and press Down to cycle through the available permanently unlocked characters.

Fight Akuma/Gouki on stage 1

After selecting a character, hold L+R+B as your opponent is revealed (you can let go once the loading screen appears). If entered correctly, Akuma will fly in at the start of the match and beat up your opponent, after which you will be fighting him.

Fight M.Bison with Ryu and Ken / Unlock Team Mode

StreetFighterAlpha SS 2vs1.png

StreetFighterAlpha SS Team.png

In the Arcade Mode, start a two-player game by pressing  START  on the second control pad.

With player one highlight Ryu , hold L+R and press Up Up. Then release L+R and press Up Up.

With player two highlight Ken , hold L+R and press Up Up. Then release L+R and press Up Up.

Now select Ryu with weak punch (default X) and select Ken with strong punch (default Z). If done correctly, before the battle begins, Bison will fly in and challenge both players to a simultaneous 2 VS 1 battle. Defeat Bison to unlock Team Mode on the main menu, which allows you to repeat this match at any time without using the code.

Select winning taunt message

After defeating an opponent but before the taunt message appears, hold any direction (Up, Down, Left or Right) and all three punch buttons (default X+Y+Z) to force a particular taunt message to appear. Each direction corresponds to a different message. This is useful for unlocking the fight with Dan (see above).
