Cynthia Modders

From Sega Retro

To do

  • This'll get worked in once her History is given a proper pass, but there's something that fascinates me the most: after quitting SoA, her and her soon-to-be husband set out to sail around the world. While it seems they were mostly prepared, they eventually did have to get to a point (or did so my choice) where they had to barter items on the boat for food/water/supplies. Seemingly anticipating this, Modders had stuffed the boat as full as she could with licensed stuff (tbh, smart.) So tons of Sega/Sonic stuff, and with the story eventually culminating in "Hey, I've got this shirt, can I get some of this food." "Sure, but only this much." "But... it's got SONIC THE HEDGEHOG on it." "Oh shit! This is actually worth a ton to me! I'm down." Like dang, I love it.
  • The article says she launched on November 20, 1998, and that this was immediately/soon after leaving SoA. Her LinkedIn also states 98 was when she left, so- left SoA in mid-to-late 1998.

Interpreting Modders' LinkedIn

So obviously Modders wasn't the Vice President of Sega. But that's what she says in her LinkedIn. Now, I don't think she's trying to lie, I think this is just a case of a general lack of tech literacy (at the risk of sounding subjective, her typing is- very poor.) How I see it: she introduces herself in her summary as a Licensing Executive, so I think she's just extending that to the rest of the page. Like: instead of reading her SoA entry as "Vice President of Sega of America", she instead means "Vice President of Licensing at Sega of America". Which also correlates to all the other information I've found. But yes, Modders LinkedIn claims she was SoA VP, but she very likely just means -of Licensing.
