Gameplay
The game is a platformer played as Tarzan, a human who was raised in the African jungle by apes. Tarzan has made it his mission to protect the jungle and its animal denizens from human encroachment and natural disasters. The game consists of six levels in which Tarzan must collect different items within a time limit, then fight a boss at the end.
Tarzan moves with and . He crouches with and jumps with . He grabs ladders and vines when he moves across them and can climb with and . Vines swing when he grabs them, and he can swing off them or can climb them when they stop swinging. He attacks by throwing weapons with . Initially, he throws knives, which are unlimited, but he can find other weapons that are limited and switch between them by pausing the game with START when Tarzan is not moving and pressing or . Weapons can be fired while crouching by holding while shooting, and some weapons can be aimed upwards (including diagonally) by holding , , or while shooting.
Tarzan's health is shown by a line over an apple in the bottom-right of the screen. The line drops lower when Tarzan takes damage, and he is momentarily stunned. Tarzan loses a life when the line reaches the bottom and must restart the level from a checkpoint (retaining any collected items). Hazards such as spike traps and quicksand instantly take all of Tarzan's health. Every level also has a time limit, and Tarzan loses a life when time runs out. The game ends if Tarzan runs out of lives, but it can be continued a limited number of times. There are two difficulty levels (Easy and Normal).
