Hammer vs. Evil D. in Soulfire is an unreleased Sega Mega-CD action game developed by GTE ImagiTrek and scheduled to be published by GTE Entertainment around March 1994.[1] Starring and endorsed by American rapper MC Hammer, it appeared at Summer CES 1993 and received minor press coverage in magazines, as well as being briefly demonstrated in a Mega-CD promotional video, but ultimately went unreleased.

Plot

MC Hammer is tasked with fighting zombie rappers known as soul suckers (presumably controlled by a villain known as Evil D.)

Gameplay

It was reportedly designed to mimic the popular arcade beat-'em up Double Dragon with added full-motion video segments. While the game's only known footage does shows a constant full-motion music video of the MC Hammer song (name) being displayed in the background, the actual gameplay itself appears much closer to a single-screen arcade game or an action platformer.

History

Hammer vs. Evil D. in Soulfire was announced at Summer CES 1992 under the name Hammer, although no gameplay was shown; stock footage of the rapper was shown instead. The game later appeared at Summer CES 1993 with an expected release in 1994 (it is not known if the game was playable here) but aside from a few screenshots and a fifteen-second appearance in the 1994 Sega of America promotional video Welcome To The Next Level[2], the project was quietly cancelled.
