Japanese mode
Despite not being released in Japan, there is programming in Cloud Master to make changes if the ROM detects it is being played on a Japanese system.
The Japanese version gets a Sega logo and a new title screen, replacing "Cloud Master" with "Chuka Taisen". Level names are replaced with kanji and power-up icons are swapped.
The game also supports the FM Sound Unit, a peripheral not released in the West.
Cheat mode
On the title screen, press

Now, during gameplay, pause and press:

to adjust the number of lives you have
to turn on invincibility and 
to turn it off
+ to increase firepower- + to toggle secondary fire
+ to skip to the next level- + to restart the level
- + to skip to the boss
