Dreamcast bootleg games (Quake engine)
From Sega Retro
- Back to: Dreamcast bootleg games.
The Quake engine is a game engine developed by id Software, principly for the 1996 IBM PC video game, Quake. Its source code was released to public on 21st December 1999, leading to a large number of unofficial "source ports" to different types of computer hardware.
One of the first attempts to port this game for Dreamcast was in 2000, when Titanium Studios released tech demo of Quake. The engine was brought to the Sega Dreamcast as QuakeDC on 14th January, 2001. Bootleggers capitalised on its release and from as early as March 2001, began publishing stand-alone commercial discs containing copies of the game, and unofficial mods sourced from the public domain.
