Cheat mode

Pause the game and press +, , +. The game will cut to a screen showing developers at Shiny Entertainment, and a debug/options screen. While the options are the same regardless of region, the system details and build date vary depending on the ROM and console being used. The options are:

• Invincibility: Enables invincibility.
• Start on Level: Press and to select a level, and  START  to play the selected level.
• Freezeability: Prevents the game from dimming the screen when paused.
• Map View Mode: Use the D-Pad to move the camera around the level, and press to move Jim to the camera's location.

Extra life

Pause the game and press +, . The game will play the "Cheater! Wheee Doggy!" voice clip if entered correctly, and when unpaused, Jim will have an extra life. This can be performed repeatedly.

Health refill

Pause the game and press +, . The game will play the "Cheater!" voice clip if entered correctly, and when unpaused, Jim's health will reset to 100%.

Ammo refill

Pause the game and press +, . The game will play the "Cheater! Yippee!" voice clip if entered correctly, and when unpaused, Jim's blaster ammo will reset to 1,000.

Nine homing missiles

Pause the game and press +, . The game will play the "Cheater! Groovy!" voice clip if entered correctly, and when unpaused, Jim will have nine homing missiles.

Invincibility

Pause the game and press +, +, . The game will play the "Cheater!" voice clip if entered correctly, and when unpaused, Jim will not take any damage from enemies and hazards.

Free movement

Pause the game and press +, +, . The game will play the "Cheater!" voice clip if entered correctly, and the game will automatically unpause and make Jim disappear. Move the camera around with the D-Pad, and press to place Jim in the current position.

Level warp

Pause the game and press any of the following to warp to a specific level:

Cosmetics

The following codes all change Jim's appearance when entered. The game will play the "Cheater!" voice clip if entered correctly, and once entered, the game must be unpaused for the codes to take effect.
