Metal Fang is an unreleased Mega-CD version of the racing game Metal Fangs. Originally developed for the Mega Drive, JVC Musical Industries' planned to bring the game to the United States as one of the earliest games for the Sega CD. While appearing at Sega of America's official launch event for the platform as a promising CD-based entry into system's lineup,[3] it would eventually be pushed back to the middle of 1993,[1][2] with the release of the game eventually being cancelled altogether.
History
Prerelease
At several points throughout 1992 and early 1993, magazines reported on a Sega CD version of the game under the alternate name Metal Fang, initially advertised by the gaming press as being published by JVC Musical Industries in March 1993.[1] It was also reportedly on display at Sega of America's press event for the launch of Sega CD in October 1992,[3] although this could have simply been the Genesis ROM as a show of JVC's future plans for the game. This version would later appear in the February 1993 issue of Sega of America's official Sega Soft Newz newsletter - this time scheduled for a release that May/June.[2]
Other than these few mentions, a CD-based version of Metal Fangs would ultimately never be heard of again. To this day, little is known about this version; whether it was a real port, or simply JVC being optimistic about supporting Sega's upcoming CD-based platform, is currently unknown.
