Introduction
As part of the arcade game's attract sequence, Mortal Kombat II recaps the story of the first Mortal Kombat. Only the 32X and Saturn conversions retain these screens - the Mega Drive and 8-bit versions expect you to read their manuals instead.

The Master System and Game Gear drop much of the cast, with Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, Baraka and Raiden omitted entirely. All of the ninjas are retained, presumably because so many of the animations are shared, though it does mean 5/8ths of the main cast are palette swaps.
