Contents
Gameplay
The game simulates playing video poker or 5-card stud poker, with the ability to bet on the outcomes of either. In either game, the D-Pad picks a card or selects a menu item and or confirms the selection.
Games
Video Poker
This game simulates the video poker machines in casinos, which is based on the rules of five-card draw. The goal of video poker is to make the most valuable poker hand possible. The player starts with $100 and can stake between $5 and $25 on each hand. When the player's bankroll reaches $500, the limit increases to $100 per hand; when the player's bankroll reaches $1,000, the limit increases to $200 per hand.
After making a bet, the player is dealt five cards and can mark the ones to hold. Then the player can select the dealer, who replaces all of the cards that were not marked and pays out an amount depending on what hand is made (if any).
5-Card Stud
This is a game of 5-card stud poker against three computer-controlled opponents. The goal is to have a better hand than the other players. Games are played to 10, 25, 50, or an unlimited number of hands. The player can choose a male or a female avatar and starts with $2,000, which is used to pay the ante (the cost for entering the game) and make bets.
At the start of the game, each player is two cards, one face up that everyone can see and one face down. The player can see the face-up cards for the three other players. Pressing or starts the betting, which starts with the rightmost player. The player can Call (match the current bet), Fold (forfeit, losing any money bet so far), or Raise (increase the bet), depending on the player's assessment of the strength of their own hand and the opponents' hands. If the player folds, the computer players play out the rest of the hand by themselves. If the player does not fold, everyone is dealt another card, the game then reveals another one of the opponents' cards, and the betting again starts from the rightmost player. This continues until every player remaining has been dealt five cards, then the player with the most valuable hand wins the round. The round ends early if one player bets and gets no calls.
The game ends when the set number of hands is played or if the player can no longer afford to pay the ante.
Hands
In Video Poker, the amount won is the amount bet multiplied by the odds of getting that hand. So if the player bets $25 and gets Two Pair, the player wins $50. The player loses the amount bet if no hand was made.
In 5-Card Stud, the topmost hands beat any hands below them.
