Play as "old" characters
In any mode, pick a character on the Character Select screen. There is a pause after the character is selected (before the plane starts flying to the destination in Arcade Mode, before the game prompts to select a Handicap in Versus Mode, and before the game allows selecting an opponent in Training Mode). During this pause, enter the code below that corresponds to the selected character, then press the LP button ( by default). If done successfully, one of the character's voice lines will play and the character will be selected with his or her original color scheme. This selects the Super Street Fighter II version of the character.

"Old" versions of characters do not have a Super meter and cannot reduce throw damage. They also lack any new moves or balance changes added to them in Super Street Fighter II X. For example, "Old Ryu" can no longer perform his Sakotsu Wari or Mizoochi Kudaki attacks, which were introduced in Super Street Fighter II X, but his fireball recovery is significantly faster, as it was in Super Street Fighter II.
The EX Options menu contains an "Old vs. New Menu" setting that enables an additional prompt to pick between the Normal (new) or Super (old) version after choosing a character. However, this setting only affects the Versus and Training Modes; old characters can only be selected in the Arcade Mode using the codes.
On the main menu, highlight Option. Hold (when using a standard Dreamcast controller) or (when using the Dreamcast Arcade Stick), then press START .
This option is only unlocked after completing the game and defeating Gouki using all 16 characters (excluding Gouki) in both their normal and their old versions (for a total of 32 playthroughs). This can be done on any difficulty setting.
On the main menu, highlight Option. Hold , then press START . This menu allows for setting DIP switches similar to the original arcade machine. The Auto Setting section picks DIP switches for a particular version of the game, while the Manual Setting section allows for toggling any of the 64 DIP switches manually. The function of each switch is not officially documented anywhere.
Play as Gouki (Akuma)
There are three versions of Gouki that can be selected in this version of the game, unofficially called Gouki, "Shin Gouki" (after the stronger version of him that appears in Street Fighter Zero 2 and later games), and "Tien Gouki" (after 天, the kanji that appears on the back of his gi). Gouki is the same as the playable version of him in previous ports of the game. He is slightly toned down from the version that can be fought in the single-player mode, lacking his double Zankuu Hadouken and having a less powerful Tatsumaki Zankuukyaku. Shin Gouki is the same as the version fought in the single-player mode. Tien Gouki is the same as Shin Gouki but now has a Super meter so he can perform his Super Combo, Shun Goku Satsu (which was not possible in any previous ports of the game).[1]
To select Gouki, highlight Ryu on the character select screen in any mode. Press START , then all three P buttons simultaneously.
To select "Shin Gouki," first enable the DIP switch 41 (3rd row, 9th column) in the Secret Options menu. Highlight Ryu on the character select screen in any mode. Press START , then all three K buttons simultaneously.
To select "Tien Gouki," first enable the DIP switch 40 (3rd row, 8th column) in the Secret Options menu. Highlight Ryu on the character select screen in any mode. Press START , then MP + HP + MK + HK .
Fight Gouki (Akuma)
To fight Gouki in the single-player mode, the player must make it to Vega without using a continue and meet one of the following conditions:
- Game time is less than 1,500 seconds upon beating Sagat.
- Game score is at least 1,200,000 upon beating Sagat.
If these conditions are met, Gouki pummels Vega before the fight begins and challenges the player instead.[2]
