F-15 Strike Eagle is a flight simulator game ported to the Sega Game Gear in 1993. It was followed by F-15 Strike Eagle II which saw a port to the Sega Mega Drive. A Mega Drive version was listed in Sega Pro,[2] as due for release in May 1993.

Gameplay

Weapons and Equipment

AMRAAM missile has been removed from the Game Gear version and replaced with M61A1 cannon.

AIM-9M Sidewinder
Air to air missile with Infra-Red tracking. Press button 1 when targeting reticule is blinking red.

M61A1 20mm Vulcan
Press button 2 to fire vulcan cannon. Multiple hits are necessary to shoot down enemy aircraft. Limited ammunition.

AGM-65D Maverick
Anti-Tank missile. Press button 1 to fire when reticle turns blinking red while flying close to the ground. Cannot be fired if plane is above 20000ft.

Counter-Measures
When an enemy missile is moving towards you, a cross will appear on the threat display. Pressing buttons 1 and 2 at the same time will drop a decoy which will distract the enemy missile.

Missions

For some unknown reason, Game Gear version changes the names of the countries, even though missions are the same as NES version, most of them taking place in Iraq during the Gulf War. (PC version has different sets of missions, including a couple in Vietnam) Names in parantheses are fictional names.

Libya (Mesnia), 1986
In response to Libya's state sponsored terrorism, US Air Force and Navy fighter planes attack targets deep inside Libya, including Colonel Kaddhaffi's armored command center at Tripoli. Expect light defences.

H2/H3 Zone, Iraq (G2/G3)
Gulf War has started. After taking off from an aircraft carrier, players must fly over Saudi territory and engage hardened SCUD missile launchers and other mobile launchers inside the Iraqi territory. You only have last known location of the mobile launchers so expect to spend some time locating actual launchers.

Iraqi-Kuwaiti Border (Ashanti Coast)
Elite Iraqi Republican Guard forces are massing across the border. Eliminate concentrations of armor and be on the lookout for Iraqi fighters.

Karbala, Iraq (Bokara)
You are entering a target rich region in the south of the Baghdad. Targets include Salman Pak chemical weapons factory and a munitions plant near Iskandariya. Bridges over Eupherates river are also need to be destroyed.

Basra, Iran-Iraq Border (Faradan/Matines Border)
Iraqi warplanes are escaping to Iran. Shoot as many of them as you can but watch out for your fuel gauge.

Southern Kuwait (Chemayne Plateau)
Iraqis are dumping the oil to the Persian Gulf. Bomb the hardened oil refinery, command bunkers and armored units.

Baghdad (Ismailia)
Saddam Hussein's nuclear weapon production centers are your primary targets. Expect heavy defences, including surface to air missiles and heavy concentration of anti-air fire. This is the only mission in the game you can earn coveted Medal of Honor.

History

A Sega Master System version was planned but ultimately cancelled, reportedly as the system was viewed as obsolete.
