Cheat mode
On the title screen, hold 
+
+
on both control pads, then press START on the first. A jingle will confirm the correct entry.
Now during gameplay, pausing and pressing will refill your life meter, will make you invincible, will both show your coordinates and let you select a level and ++ will skip this level[1].
