UWOL: Quest for Money is a port of a homebrew arcade game, originally developed for ZX Spectrum by the Spanish development team, The Mojon Twins. It was ported to the Sega Mega Drive by Shiru in 4 March 2010, and was released physically by 1985 Alternativo in October 2013. Resembling 80s and 90s arcade titles, UWOL features 55 Levels where the player needs to find money in a millionaire mansion that is haunted by classic monsters.

The game was also included in the multi-cart release, Mega Games Almanac, in 2019.

    Plot

Uwol likes money. One day, he heard about Storm Palace, a very old manor full of gold coins that is located next to Canutos Forest. Although the manor was guarded by dangerous creatures, Uwol decided not to give up until he gets at least 255 coins.

The problem is that it won’t be very easy… the cellar of Storm Palace is quite deep and are full of nooks and crannies. Besides, the intricate disposition of rooms makes it very easy to get lost and go back to the starting point. That’s what happened to Uwol: his greed made him go deeper and deeper into the manor so he got lost and trapped in the lowest labyrinth, inhabited by Vampy, Franky, Fanty and Wolfy, who will try by all means to make Uwol fail in his task.

    Gameplay

The objective of the game is to collect as many coins as possible. Uwol won’t want to end his mission until he collects a minimum of 255 coins. The manor rooms are arranged like a pyramid, starting from the very top, and after the player cleans a room of coins they will be given the chance to choose which path (left or right) to take. The player selects a path by walking over one of the arrows which appear and pressing Down.

If the player gets to the bottom of the pyramid and hasn’t gathered enough coins, they must return to the top and start over. This time, they should choose another path as previously visited rooms will be empty, and use the pyramid map to know which rooms have been visited and which haven’t.

Levels have three enemies which follow pretty linear paths, but once the time ends one of them will summon Fanty which will chase the player relentlessly all accross the screen. Touching an enemy will make Uwol lose his clothes, and will die if he is touched by an enemy again unless the player finds a t-shirt.

When the player gets a certain ammount of points, they’ll be rewarded with an extra life.[2].
