Story
While playing a game called Zantar at Noah's Arcade, Wayne and Garth are sucked into the game somehow. Garth is abducted by the purple gelatinous monster Zantar, and Wayne must rescue him.
Gameplay
The game is a platformer where the player controls Wayne and must rescue Garth in "twisted" versions of their hangout locations. Levels consist of multiple sub-levels, followed by a boss fight. At the end of each sub-level, Wayne finds Garth, but he is abducted again by a large purple hand. Before and after every level, Wayne and Garth retell their adventure in a manner similar to the television skit and with references to the movie.
Wayne moves with or , ducks with , and jumps with . He strums his guitar with , which shoots "chords," sound waves that act as projectiles that can attack enemies. He can strum his guitar while running or jumping but not while ducking. When he strums it in midair, he swings his arm in a windmill motion like Pete Townshend, so the projectile is delayed.
Wayne has starts with five "Worthiness Points," which are hit points that he loses when he is hurt by an enemy or a hazard. He loses a life if he loses all of his Worthiness Points. The game ends if the player runs out of lives, but there are unlimited continues.
Items
Items are found scattered throughout the levels. Only one guitar power-up can be active at a time.
