The film is best remembered for director [[Uwe Boll]]'s later juvenile and violent reactions to critics of this and other films, going as far as to invite negative reviewers to fight Boll in a boxing match (as a means to fulfill earlier promises of physical violence towards those who criticized his films.) While Boll's temperament is most associated with his later 2005 film ''[[wikipedia:Alone in the Dark (2005 film)|Alone in the Dark]]'' (considered one of the worst films of all time), he first began notably threatening movie critics sometime after the release of ''House of the Dead'', and still continues to deliver regular threats of violence to reviewers of his films.
