Fat Daddy is an unreleased Sega Genesis game developed by Sega Technical Institute. Appearing exclusively in Brenda Cook's video resume of her work,[1] she created both sprite artwork and animation for what seem to be two player characters,[2] as well as concept artwork introducing additional characters,[3] in what appears to be a pitch to Sega management for a potential new game. Unfortunately, the project was not picked up, and appears to have been ultimately cancelled before any significant development could begin.[1]

Gameplay
Fat Daddy appears to have featured a musical theme[2] (possibly a blues or jazz theme, where the term "daddy" is more historically-prevalent), and was seemingly set to star two anthropomorphic feline protagonists - one in red and one in blue. Existing documentation shows the characters playing a number of musical instruments, with the red character using a horn and saxophone while the blue character plays bass and drums. Each character would also have their own unique running, jumping, and idle animations.[2][1]
History
Development
Like much of Cook's other Genesis work, the game's art was originally created on an Amiga with Deluxe Paint.[4] Like other STI projects, the main characters were drawn to fit in alongside the design of Sonic the Hedgehog, something most visible in their round, interconnected eyes.[2]
Legacy
Fat Daddy was entirely undocumented until Brenda Cook's video resume was preserved and uploaded to YouTube by The Video Game History Foundation in December 2023, where animations from the game are shown directly following Jester - another cancelled STI project in which Cook's artwork went unreleased. A page of hand-illustrated concept art also appears at the end of the video.[1]
