This template will be used at some point to house arcade scans, because the regular ScanBox template isn't really suitable (the obvious point being that most arcade games don't have "boxes").

I don't really know how arcades work, so I don't actually know what material is common to an arcade release. I would expect all games would ship with a manual, and with later systems, a cartridge/disc with the actual game on it, but other scannable material, which I am assured exists, is a mystery for me. Here's what I understand:

  • Most upright cabinets ship with marquees which can be scanned
  • A good chunk of systems ship with instruction cards/panels/whatever - things that aren't printed onto the cabinet
  • PCB scans/photos might be possible, though I'm not sure how much the earlier ones vary between games
  • There are conversion kits for no frills cabinets (btw these will all need separating at some point) - that means more scannable artwork or panels or instructions or whatever
  • Flyers are separate. We're now classing these as "promotional material" much like press releases or advertisments or whatever, which means the ScanFlyer template will go.
  • The internet is filled with reproductions - we don't want any of them.

We will also need to accommodate all of Sega's weird cabinet designs and conversion kits. Like the scanbox template the idea would be to have a separate one for each "region".

Find torrent for MAME - MAME Extras - it contain most of things for arcade - artwork, background, cabinets, cpanel, flyers, manuals, marquees, pcb, titles. -Depressor (talk) 07:17, 24 July 2014 (CDT)
Much of MAME's stuff isn't really appropriate - often things are cleaned up and adjusted (and sometimes completely re-built from the ground up) for the sake of looking nice within the emulator - we tend to want stuff that's more "authentic". Their collection of cabinet shots are also a bit crappy, although we might get some mileage out of PCBs, and doubtless there'll be one or two other things of use.
Either way I can't be bothered to trawl the internet for a torrent site that hasn't been blocked by my ISP :P -Black Squirrel (talk) 09:09, 24 July 2014 (CDT)

idk

Not sure about the screenshot, but some games have a screen overlay which could go in that spot. Everything else looks good. - Hivebrain (talk) 13:34, 24 July 2014 (CDT)
It's a substitute for an overlay because we don't have any on this wiki - the sizes are all a bit wacky though - I'm not sure how best to do those without something like this. -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:47, 24 July 2014 (CDT)
"Bezel". That's the name people like to use, and now we have one. Although apparently there's a silver one for Shadow Dancer too - why it exists is anyone's guess.
I don't think we're going to get very far with this without some real arcade operators on board - I don't really know what I'm doing, and online documentation is abysmal. It's too difficult to guess when there are so many home-made modifactions and custom stuff -Black Squirrel (talk) 07:27, 26 July 2014 (CDT)

For whoever

This template doesn't offer a clean way to do cocktail cabinets... or indeed any non-upright cabinet... which is why it might not be fit for purpose, but I can't think of a better solution right now.

Jump Bug has two instruction cards and I don't know how best to handle it... so I'm going to leave it to someone else and not handle it at all. -Black Squirrel (talk) 15:37, 9 March 2015 (CDT)

The card without Sega's logo is probably from a bootleg cabinet. --AllisonKidd (talk) 17:32, 9 March 2015 (CDT)
I don't think it's from a bootleg, but even if it was, there are still cases where games have two (or more) different instruction cards. This template caters for US-style cabinets quite well, but in Japan where it's more common to see standardised cabinets with changable boards, it falls a bit short. -Black Squirrel (talk) 10:11, 10 March 2015 (CDT)

accommodating everything is tricky. For eight player Daytona USA cabinets we can just stick eight of these side-by-side (same with twins, but then what do we do with massive marquees and whatever...)

No idea how we'll cope with the fancy cabinets of the 90s with the bazillion decals. Or the ones where you sit inside an enclosed space. Or G-LOC.

let me know if I'm missing something - I think this covers most situations? -Black Squirrel (talk) 14:24, 10 November 2015 (CST)

I think the gaps are caused by rounding errors.

Not quite sure how to handle left/right cabinet artwork. I was thinking of using fancy maths and rowspans but there may be better options -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:39, 13 November 2015 (CST)
