Easy mode
While "easy" is the default in the Western versions of the game, the Japanese version disables the option entirely. To re-enable it, highlight the difficulty selection and press

Continue without spending credits
Hold 
++ on the "Game Over" screen, and release when the continue screen appears. You will be able to continue without using up one of your credits.
Stage select
Highlight "control" on the options screen and hold . After a while, a stage select will appear.
