Sega Retro policy is to use the most common (and thus most recognisable) name, not strictly the first name it was released under. Europe + Brazil + Canada > US, therefore "American Baseball". Hey BS, this is in response to the renaming just now. I apologize, I didn't know about that policy when I moved it.
It should still remain Reggie Jackson Baseball, even if my note was incorrect, and not for anything reason related to release date. Instead, that the game was the first SoA celebrity-sponsored video game, one that set a very notable trend for both Sega’s American presence, and sports video games in general.
That notability far supersedes the policy being referenced here. Frankly, it’s the single-most notable thing about this game. To rename the article anything else diminishes that notability. Not by a ton, it’s not like damaging the article or anything, but it’s also not something I can understand the reasoning behind. Even when considering that all games need to be approached on a case-by-case basis when it comes to applying an encyclopedic framework to it all, there is no reason this specific article (and it’s Walter Payton counterpart) should not reference that notability.
