This short article is in need of work. You can help Sega Retro by adding to it.

Hard Yardage is an arcade American football game. A Sega Mega Drive port was announced at Winter CES 1990 but was cancelled for unknown reasons. Had it been released, it would have been the first American football game to land on the system (save for a futuristic alternative, Cyberball).

Hard Yardage was adopted by Sega later in 1990, with the vision of turning it into Joe Montana Football[1]. However within a few months this plan had been scrapped on quality grounds, with Sega hiring a southern Californian team to create a replacement (after a deal with Electronic Arts and John Madden Football had been turned down)[2].
