Headbone Interactive Inc. was an American edutainment video game developer headquartered in Seattle, Washington, and an affiliate of Sega of America.

Company

Headbone Interactive was formed in 1993 to produce the next generation of children's software. The company focused primarily on CD-ROM edutainment game development, while retaining the rights to create spin-off products for television and retail stores. Headbone's long-term strategy emphasized "product versatility," where each title is part of a CD-ROM series that re-introduces familiar characters to new environments. Research had shown that once children bond with fictionalized characters, they are likely to seek out new products based on these same personalities (an approach had been highly successful in book publishing). Headbone additionally built their business strategy around merchandising opportunities, and hoped to eventually expand into television and internet programming.[1]

Susan Lammers, Headbone's founder, was previously Microsoft's Director of Multimedia Publishing, and had later served at Continuum Productions, a company established by Bill Gates to develop online multimedia products. Staff talent was supplemented with writers, illustrators, photographers, programmers, and musicians who had made a name for themselves in their respective fields.[1]
