Japanese mode
Despite not being released in Japan, there is programming in Cloud Master to make changes if the ROM detects it is being played on a Japanese system.
The Japanese version gets a Sega logo and a new title screen, replacing "Cloud Master" with "Chuka Taisen". Level names are replaced with kanji and power-up icons are swapped.
The game also supports the FM Sound Unit, a peripheral not released in the West.
Cheat mode
Now, during gameplay, pause and press:
- and to adjust the number of lives you have
- to turn on invincibility and to turn it off
- + to increase firepower
- + to toggle secondary fire
- + to skip to the next level
- + to restart the level
- + to skip to the boss
