- Back to: Mortal Kombat 3.
This list is incomplete. The following list has been marked as incomplete. If you can, please complete it. |
Mega Drive version
Random select
Highlight Shang Tsung (or Liu Kang if you're the second player) and press + START . This will make the game pick a character for you at random.
Unlock Smoke
At the MK3 logo in the introduction sequence, press . The announcer will say "Smoke" and the background will go red, signalling the code has worked. Alternatively, Smoke can be enabled in the Killer Codes menu below.
Smoke can also be fought by using the kombat kode 205-205 in two player mode (see kombat kodes section below)
Fight Noob Saibot
Noob Saibot can be fought by using the kombat kode 769-342 in two player mode (see kombat kodes section below)
Killer codes
On the main menu, press . This will enable the following options:
- Quick End - quickly perform the selected fatality type by pressing the last button required to perform the fatality normally. If a button is normally held to perform a fatality, this button can be held and released without having to also press other buttons.
- Smoke - unlock Smoke
- Bosses - play as the boss characters in 2 player mode
- Play Hidden Game - immediately start playing the Galaga-esque mini-game.
Cheats option
On the main menu, press to access a "cheats" option. This will enable the following options:
- Sound Test
- Continues - How many credits you start with (in units of 5)
- Bio Screen - View any regular character's text biography
Secrets option
On the main menu, press . This will enable the following options:
- Timer - Modify timer speed or disable it
- Win Screen - View any character's win screen text (including Smoke)
- Kombat zone - Set the first level you'll battle in
Endurance mode
Press +++ START on the main menu. This is a single round 8 character vs 8 character battle. This mode can also be enabled using kombat kode 006-040, though doing so skips the character select so the teams are randomised.
Hidden 'Galaga' style mini-game
This game can be accessed from the Killer Kodes menu or by using kombat kode 642-468
Start mini-game with 8 lives
During the introduction of the mini-game, press and hold +++. If entered correctly, you will hear a firing sound. There is no equivalent code for three-button controllers.
Hidden 'Pong' style mini-game
This game can be accessed by using kombat kode 303-606. Humorously it's named 'MK4' and described as a 'next generation fighting game'!
Kombat Kodes
Mortal Kombat 3 introduced to the series the concept of "Kombat Kodes". As a two-player versus match is about to begin, six boxes showing icons at the bottom of the screen can be manipulated by both players. The first three boxes are cycled through by tapping player one's , and buttons, respectively, and the second three by the second player.
There are 10 digits, usually referred to in-guides as 0-9 (e.g. to get the third icon, tap the button twice):

Unfinished bios
An unfinished bio for Smoke exists in the game. No text was written for the character, however, with Kano's appearing instead. The string - MOTARO - also exists within the ROM.
Smoke's bio can be seen in the demo sequence by using the Action Replay code FF0217:0E. Attempting to load Motaro's bio causes the game to crash as there is no versus image.
Game Gear version
Random select
Highlight Sindel and press + START . This will make the game pick a character for you at random.
