Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament is the direct sequel to the critically acclaimed Micro Machines. Initially released by Codemasters for the Sega Mega Drive, ports were made to the Sega Game Gear, DOS computers, Game Boy, and Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
Gameplay is similar to its predecessor, but the physics are now slightly different depending on the vehicle.
The Mega Drive version of the game was remarkable at the time of release as it was distributed on Codemaster's custom-made "J-Cart". As well as containing the game, the cartridge had two extra contoller ports built into it, allowing for four player races without the need for a multi-tap. It was such a success, that Codemasters would recycle the cartridge design for sequels to the game: Micro Machines: Turbo Tournament 96 and Micro Machines: Military. The DOS version of the game features a track editor which is missing in all the other ports.
