Localisation comparisons
Master System version
In Japan, Hang-On starts with a static Sega Mark III logo which was removed in international versions.
There is more text on the Japanese title screen, telling us that Sega made the game, and then made the game again.
In Japan, Hang-On operates with a slightly lower screen resolution - 232x192 vs. 248x192, with vertical borders making up the difference. At the start of a course, the game points out what "stage" it is, and there are subtle palette differences.
The North American version, which was only released as a built-in game as part of Hang-On / Safari Hunt and later on cartridge as Hang-On / Astro Warrior is thought to be identical to the European version, but the left border is black rather than blue.
