Milestone Inc. (株式会社マイルストーン) was a developer of shoot-'em-ups founded by Compile employees shortly after the company's downfall, headed by Hiroshi Kimura. A majority of Milestone's games were made for Sega's NAOMI platform and later ported to platforms such as the Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo GameCube, and Nintendo Wii. In fact, they would live up to their name — releasing the last officially licensed Dreamcast game, a port of Karous.
In early 2013, Kimura was arrested for illegal activities involving securities[1] after using Milestone to fund a bioenergy firm, MS Bio Energy, and Milestone subsequently shut down[2]. Their intellectual property (or at least just Karous) seems to have been purchased by another Japanese developer named Klon.
