Since junior high school, Iona Takashima wanted to create sound for video games.[4][5] She began composing music in high school and posted some songs to YouTube.[5] Takashima joined the Department of Interactive Media department of Tokyo Polytechnic University[3][4] after researching the various possible universities and seeing that some sound designers had graduated from Tokyo Polytechnic.[4]
In her first year at university she joined the sound study group where she formed connections and also participated outside the school in DJing and composition.[4] This was the proceeding for 2 years, and in her 3rd year and final year (2018), Takashima expanded her knowledge of sound by attending a seminar focused on sound, writing with other members based on a theme and creating music for independent productions.[4] She also decided to learn various skills unrelated to sound, taking opportunities she could only be offered as a student.[4] Takashima began showcasing her work to a wider audience by making and selling CDs at conventions and working for companies she would be interested in working for full-time.[4] This includes Sega, composing the song "The Holy Lights" for Chain Chronicle and arranging it with Takahiro Kai,[6] and editing songs for the rhythm game Ongeki.[5]
