    Gameplay

Infinite Wealth follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, Yakuza: Like a Dragon by being a turn-based RPG, this time spread between Isezaki Ijincho (the main setting of Like a Dragon) and a fictionalised version of Honolulu in the US state of Hawaii (as well as Kamurocho, primarily used for the finale).

Kasuga Ichiban is the main protagonist of the game, however Infinite Wealth sees the return of Kazuma Kiryu, who eventually leads his own party in Japan. This means for much of the game, the cast of characters is split between two groups of (eventually) five.

    Characters

    Party members

Other than the optional party member, Eri Kamataki, the full cast of Like a Dragon make a return as party members, though join up at different parts of the story. The addition of four other characters take the total up to ten.

    Ichiban Kasuga
    Eric Tomizawa
    Chitose Fujinomiya
    Koichi Adachi
    Joongi Han
    Kazuma Kiryu
Protagonist of all prior (numbered) Yakuza games save for Like a Dragon (where he only plays a supporting role), Kazuma Kiryu is once again playable in Infinite Wealth. He starts as a member of Ichiban's party before being flown back to Japan, at which point he becomes the leader of a separate Japan-based party.

Kiryu's exclusive job as "Dragon of Dojima" borrows elements from prior Yakuza games, with three different fighting styles and heat actions. He cannot equip weapons, so spends the whole game fighting with his bear hands.

    Yu Nanba
    Seonhee
Leader of the combined organsation of the Geomijul and Yokohama Liumang, Seonhee is upgraded from a supporting role in Like a Dragon to full party member, assisting Kiryu.
    Saeko Mukouda
    Tianyou Zhao

    Dungeons

Main article: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth/Gameplay/Dungeons.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth contains two "dungeons"; Hawaiian Haunt in Hawaii, and Yokohama Underground in Isezaki Ijincho. Both are functionally similar, taking place in underground areas split into four "sectors". Each sector has ten floors, two of which are dedicated to bosses; the idea is for the player to make their way down and survive until the end, locating missing people along the way. Each dungeon has its own collectable currency which can be exchanged for items.

Unlike Like a Dragon, the dungeons in Infinite Wealth are procedurally generated to ensure the layout changes every visit. Each floor is constructed from square rooms and corridors, populated with groups of enemies and items. Dungeons are some of the few parts of the game can only be saved at specific spots, meaning the player has to tackle five floors at a time.

The story forces the player to complete the first section of each dungeon, but the remaining sections are optional.

    Sujimon

Main article: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth/Gameplay/Sujimon.

Like a Dragon's Pokémon parody, "Sujimon" makes a return in Infinite Wealth, but is now expanded from just finding Sujimon to a battle system. Ichiban can recruit Sujimon to compete in "Sujimon Battles" against other "trainers", with the objective to defeat the "Discreet Four" and become champion of the "Sujimon League".

    Dondoko Island

Main article: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth/Gameplay/Dondoko Island.

As a replacement for Ichiban Confections in Like a Dragon, Infinite Wealth sees Kasuga manage the holiday venue of "Dondoko Island", restoring its five-star resort status after being invaded by a group known as the "Washbucklers".

The Dondoko mascots are Gachapin and Mukku from the Japanese children's TV show Hirake! Ponkikki, which ran from 1973 to 1993 (and have appeared across various Japanese media since). They previously starred in the Sega Pico game Hirake! Ponkikki Party o Hirakou!.
