City Connection Co., Ltd. (株式会社シティコネクション) is a Japanese video game rights licensing company which owns the rights to Jaleco's back catalogue.[1] It is named after Jaleco's 1985 arcade game of the same name.
City Connection is also responsible for the Saturn Tribute line, which focuses on standard or enhanced re-releases of Sega Saturn games for modern platforms and Windows PCs, although these re-releases do not have the involvement of Sega.
Softography
Saturn Tribute
The Saturn Tribute (サターントリビュート, or S-Tribute for Taito games) line of releases repackage the original Saturn games for modern platforms (namely, the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Steam). The games were released through digital download services, though some of them received limited physical releases as well.
These releases use an emulator that City Connection calls the "Zebra Engine," which is believed to be a derivative of the SSF emulator, with features such as save states, rewind, slow mode, and scanline video filters. The games are sometimes modified to include extra features such as unlimited credits, stage select, and rapid-fire.
Though the games have not been translated from their original languages, the menu for the wrapper is in English, Japanese, traditional Chinese, Korean, French, and Spanish.
Notably, Idol Janshi Suchi-Pai Saturn Tribute was released on Windows PC only by DMM Games in 2023[2], also being the only Saturn Tribute release to be released on physical media (DVD-ROM) for the platform. Metal Black S-Tribute was once set to be released on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, but was cancelled after Hamster re-releasing the Arcade version on those platforms as part of the Arcade Archives series[3].
