Total Carnage is the sequel to Smash T.V. and was originally released into arcades in 1992 by Midway. It was subsquently ported in 1994 to Amiga computers and the Amiga CD32 by International Computer Entertainment, and to the Super Nintendo and Game Boy by Malibu Games. Malibu Games were also contracted to produce Sega Mega Drive and Sega Mega-CD versions, but both were cancelled for unknown reasons.
It is unknown how far in development the Mega Drive and Mega CD copies of the game got to before being scrapped. Both were set for release after the Super Nintendo version and so would have hit store shelves at some point in 1994, having also been previewed in some form at Winter CES 1993. Due to Nintendo's censorship policies, the SNES version of Total Carnage makes a number of changes to tone down violence - these changes may not have been present in the Sega ports.
Curiously an Atari Jaguar version of the game was scrapped around this time too, although this version of the game was completed and was released unofficially in 2005.
