Sega Park & Casino Colindale, formerly known as SegaDome, was an indoor Sega Park arcade centre located in the Oriental City shopping centre (previously Yaohan Plaza) in Colindale, London. The main entrance of the shopping centre featured a large image of Sonic the Hedgehog.
History and Layout
SegaDome was part of Yaohan Plaza ever since the centre opened in 1994. The venue was made to be like a smaller version of its sister venue Sega World Bournemouth. It featured white walls decorated with flags of the world decorating the top, alongside painted murals of Sega characters like Sonic and Tails, and even third-party characters like Cool Spot on the sides of the walls. Many different arcade machines were placed all around the venue, and nearer to the right of the entrance was a small Bowling Alley. During its first few years, the venue was home to a R-360. The flooring was later replaced with a Sonic-themed carpet, and the murals were soon removed.
Within an unknown date, the venue was rebranded under the Sega Park name. By 2001, with Leisure Exchange taking over the Sega Parks, the Collindale venue, in particular, was renamed as a Casino, and began to decline in quality, with the rooftop being exposed and broken lights, making the venue feel very dorm-lit. Many of the video games were replaced with gambling machines, along with the addition of a pool table, penny pushers and Claw Machines, one, in particular, sat outside the entrance.
The venue continued to decline alongside the then-named Oriental City until June 1, 2008, when it was closed despite campaigns by the local East Asian community. The building sat abandoned for years until it was demolished in August 2014. A Morrisons Supermarket now sits in the area where the centre used to stand.
