Mega Drive version
The Western versions include a ™ symbol next to the Sega logo.
Japanese version
Several changes to the game were made for its Japanese release - including the addition of signposts to starting hub area, palette changes for several enemies, checkpoints were added in the penultimate level to save progress and a new level was added so that, if Ecco was eaten by the Vortex Queen in the final boss, they would play through a non-auto scrolling level called 'The Stomach' rather than replay the prior level in its entirety.
