Gameplay
The game is a guessing game resembling the "code-breaking" board game Mastermind. The goal is to determine the correct combination of four items, correctly guessing both the symbols and their positions. Items are selected from a set of 7 or 8 symbols (depending on the difficulty level chosen).
The computer informs the player after each guess whether the symbols and their positions are correct by displaying signs. One sign (which differs in appearance depending on the symbol set chosen) indicates that the symbol and position of an item is correct, while another sign indicates that the symbol is correct but its position is wrong. No sign is given when both the symbol and position of an item are wrong. The player must use this information to help narrow down the correct combination. Crucially, the hints do not indicate which items are correct or incorrect, so some trial and error is still needed to determine which symbols to keep and which to change.
The player moves the selection cursor (between positions or between symbols) using the D-Pad. The player switches between placing a symbol and choosing a symbol by pressing and places a symbol with . Once all the symbols are in place, the player can make the computer check the answer by pressing , which shows the results of the guess and moves on to the next attempt.
The player has 16 chances to guess the right combination. The game shows the last eight attempts. When the player guesses correctly, the game resets. The three best times for each difficulty level are shown during gameplay.
Difficulty levels
There are four difficulty levels, selected before starting the game:
- Level 1: Uses 7 symbols.
- Level 2: Uses 8 symbols.
- Level 3: Uses 7 symbols. The computer can lie one time about whether the player guessed correctly.
- Level 4: Uses 8 symbols. The computer can lie one time about whether the player guessed correctly.
Symbols
There are four symbol sets, which differ only in appearance.
