Depthcharge, known in Japan as Depthbomb (ディプスボンブ), is an arcade game released by Gremlin Industries for VIC Dual hardware in 1977.
Contents
Gameplay
Players control a battleship on the surface of some water, moving left and right in an attempt to avoid enemy mines. One button drops a depth charge off the left hand side of the ship, another the right hand side, with the objective of destroying enemy submarines below.
History
A version of the game was released by Taito in Japan the same year, called Sub Hunter, though it is unknown which version released first.
Depthcharge pre-dates the slightly more successful (and more well known) Deep Scan though the gameplay is largely identical. Depthcharge has a monochrome display and lacks any sort of radar or ranking system.
