TV Tuner

From Sega Retro

Bizarrely, I don't think that there was ever a French (SECAM) version of this, I can only find PAL-I (MK-2101-05), PAL-B/G (MK-2101-18, with German RF standards sticker), and PAL-B/G (MK-2101-20, presumably for other PAL countries with less strict RF standards than Germany). Is there any evidence for a French TV Tuner (or French coverage about it not getting released there?).--Pirate Dragon (talk) 18:35, 28 December 2017 (CST)

Well... i guess you're not wrong at all... according with the discussion in this forum here http://www.gamopat-forum.com/t83228-tuner-tv-game-gear it was never released in france.(the user by the name Kameleon has Portuguese parents, and he says he bought the TV tuner in Portugal...and judging by the answers the other users gave him, the TV tuner must had never been released in France)... i guess it's plausible... their reaction is that of someone who is seeing rare stuff for the first time... there's even a guy who asked him if he could watch tv with that which he awnsered yes but in Portugal during vacation... so i guess you're in the right way... and this page, mentions that fact http://www.grospixels.com/site/gamegear.php --Asagoth (talk) 02:56, 29 December 2017 (CST)
If it arrived, it was certainly late - a quick skim through the magazine archives suggests it wasn't so much "cancelled", just never announced.

"Still no TV tuner for France"
I'm assuming it's the same story for the few TurboExpress consoles that were distributed there -Black Squirrel (talk) 05:38, 29 December 2017 (CST)
Yes... in this piece of text "Malgre notre protestations repetees aupres de Virgin, le tuner tv n'est toujours pa prevu" (Despite our repeated protests directed ( questions made... i'm not implying that you're stupid... you're more intelligent than me) to Virgin , the TV tuner is still not expected/announced...--Asagoth (talk) 06:06, 29 December 2017 (CST)
Good finds, although I don't think there was even a PAL TV Tuner available when that article was written (I think it released around the end of 91 / start of 92). At best a PAL TV Tuner in France might have been able to display a black and white picture with no sound. France also used a different TV system to the rest of western Europe (Systems K and L, whereas most of Europe used systems B and G, with the UK on system I), so I'm not even sure if would even display that.--Pirate Dragon (talk) 06:23, 29 December 2017 (CST)
