Garfield: Caught in the Act is a platform game starring the characters from the Garfield comic series. It was released for the Sega Game Gear in 1995.

Story

Odie scares Garfield while he is watching television, and he ends up falling on the television. In a rushed effort to repair the television before Jon catches them, Garfield and Odie attempt to put the banged up and broken pieces together. Garfield quickly reassembles the television, minus a part or two. As Garfield throws away the spare pieces, they become an electronic monster known as the Glitch. The Glitch transports Garfield into the television; he must now defeat the Glitch to make his way out.

Gameplay

Hub level

The Game Gear version is a platformer that plays similarly to its Mega Drive counterpart. It includes eight levels, two of which are absent from the original Mega Drive game but appear in the Lost Levels, but Garfield does not have different outfits for each level in this version. There are hub segments between each level that take place inside the TV set. Garfield does not take damage from the obstacles in these segments; instead, taking damage teleports him back to the start of the segment.

Garfield walks with Left and Right and runs with LeftLeft and RightRight. He crouches with Down, jumps with 1, and jumps off platforms with Down+1. He pushes some objects by moving into them and grabs onto ledges by jumping near them. Garfield attacks with 2. If he is next to an enemy, he attacks by punching; otherwise, he throws a projectile, which are limited in supply but can be collected in the levels. In some levels, he enters passageways with Up when standing on front of them. Many levels have exits that do reveal themselves until Garfield has defeated all of the enemies in the area.

Garfield has ten health points (indicated by a TV set in the corner of the screen). He loses a health point whenever he takes damage from an enemy or a hazard, and he loses a life and restarts the level if he loses all of his health points. The game ends if the player runs out of lives, but it can be continued if the player has continues remaining. There is also a password system for continuing.
