King's Quest: Quest for the Crown is a Sega Master System graphic adventure game developed by Microsmiths and published by Parker Brothers. A port of the titular 1984 Sierra On-Line title King's Quest I, the game was released exclusively in the United States in July 1989, and adopts the original's verb/noun interface to a proprietary engine for use with the Master System Control Pad.
The game is one of few North American Sega Master System titles released by a third-party publisher, and one of few released exclusively in the United States.
Versions
King's Quest: Quest for the Crown uses its own engine, with a verb/noun interface similar to early LucasArts titles, and original tile and sprite-based graphics. It is based on the original iteration of King's Quest, and shares both the puzzles and points-list of that game. Some puzzles and rooms have been slightly arranged (for example, the boulder covering the dagger rolls a different direction), an extra item exists (three-leaf clovers), additional places to die were added, and progress is now saved with a password system.
